OTHER GREAT 3D SITES:

Below are some links to some great 3D sites that I've encountered over the years. There are many great sites out there for 3D artwork, so this list will consist only of sites that have 3D artwork that is NOT made in Maya, 3D Studio Max, or Lightwave. The sites listed below are sites that use less-expensive programs such as Ray Dream Studio, Bryce, TrueSpace, POV-Ray, and others that are popular to 3D hobbyists like myself. Without further ado, here they are, in alphabetical order. Enjoy! (NOTE: At the time that this page of links was created, no objectionable material was present on any of the websites listed below. Since I hardly ever have time to maintain this site anymore, I cannot vouch for the "safety" of the sites in the future, and cannot take responsibility for said external links listed below.)

Astronomy Picture of the Day

There are times that I am almost moved to tears by the sheer mind-numbing beauty of these real-life images of outer space. Please see my "Other Artwork" page for more on this sentiment.

BamBam131's Bryce 3D Space Exploration Page
(Bryce 5.0)

This guy is who I wish I was when it comes to all-original 3D modeling and animation. He uses Bryce, a program that was also created by MetaCreations back in the day. And man, does he use it WELL!

Banshee Squadron - Star Trek Fan-Fiction
(Carrara)

Some SUPERB work here, Richard Merk's Carrara-rendered Star Trek models and fiction showcase Carrara's superb capabilities, especially when coupled with Dax3D's figure modeling.

Bilagaana
(Ray Dream Studio)

A sight featuring superb Ray Dream Studio works by Bilagaana, as well as great RDS tutorials and animations. This guy is a PRO at Ray Dream!

Bungo & Rusti (Star Wars)

This guy is superb at making Ray Dream sci-fi images. His ongoing web-comic at TheForce.net features a ton of original and jaw-dropping Star Wars and general-SF images done in Ray Dream Studio. Very photo-realistic!

Digital Carvers' Guild
(Ray Dream Studio)

Eric Winemiller's page of well-renown plug-ins for Ray Dream and Carrara. Eric is one of the pioneers of Ray Dream Studio and has been instrumental in its continued support.

Digital Waterfalls 2004
(POVRay and Bryce)

A site inspired by and done in homage to the spaceships and space scenes in the "Terran Trade Authority" series of books by Stewart Cowley in the mid-80's: "Spacecraft 2000-2100" "Great Space Battles" "Spacewreck: Ghosts and Derelicts of Space" and "Starliners: Commercial Travel in 2200"

Evelio's Ray Dream Studo site
(Ray Dream Studio)

Evelio has made some ESSENTIAL plug-ins for RDS that will greatly enhance what you can do with the software. (In fact, if I'm not mistaken, a lot of his plug-ins are now standard in Cararra, which should tell you how great these plug-ins are!)

Jeff's POV-Ray Page
(You guessed it - POVRay)

The first few times I examined this site, I really thought that he was using 3D Studio Max. You know, the $3500 3D program with eight million features? No - turns out he's using the FREE POVRay program, much to my amazement. Just goes to show you that, as my friend Al always says, "It's not the brush that makes the image, it's the painter."

Raith's 3D Star Wars page.
(TrueSpace)

I confess that I have drooled over this site for years now - Phil Rivera should be working for ILM; if he can do this well with TrueSpace, imagine what he can do with Maya and 3D Studio Max... His Star Wars models and images make my own efforts look like crap, to tell you the truth.

John Sledd Studios
(Ray Dream Studio)

John Sledd has been working professionally with Ray Dream for as long as I can remember, nearly a decade if not longer. He has contributed to many books and professional development forums, etc, for RDS, and is universally acknowledged as one of the Masters of Ray Dream Studio.

StarShips.com

Some excellent and innovative "retro" style 1950's spaceships, a-la Flash Gordon. Lots of fun!
