Imperial Stormtroopers patrolling the Death Star

Episode IV:
Imperial Stormtroopers
on the Death Star

The Death Star corridors in this scene were easy to make - some basic shapes and a Spline Object or two, plus some textures made in Adobe PhotoShop: ten minutes at most. The Imperial Stormtroopers, on the other hand, were not made entirely by me. The armor parts - the white plastic pieces of the stormtroopers, were obtained years ago from an unknown source, in Lightwave format. I used Lightwave to covnert the armor into the DXF format, and then imported the DXF file into Ray Dream Studio. (This is years before Ray Dream Studio became Carrara.) I recently updated the armor by using Carrara's UV-Unwrap feature to create a 2D image of the helmet's polygons, then went back into PhotoShop to "paint" the face onto the image in a separate layer. Lastly, I removed the polygon layer from the image, and imported the image back INTO Carrara and applied the image as a texture-map to the helmet. UV-Mapping ROCKS!!! I then built the ab-plate buttons and applied them to the armor, and built in a black bodysuit under the armor to represent the person inside the armor, showing through the gaps in the white armor pieces. The result is what you see here.

Now, you ask - why an image of Imperial Stormtroopers? Because I am an Imperial Stormtrooper, proudly serving in real-life as TK-4267 of the 501st Legion - "Vader's Fist." For more information about that, click here.
