Imperial Space Marine
Mk4 "Maximus" Armour
This is a modified amalgamation of several of my other Space Marine (Adeptus Astartes) armor suits, including the Mark 5, Mark 6, and Mark 7. The metal tabard replaces the abdomen cables and cod-piece, the knees are different, and of course the face-plate of the Mark-IV helmet is completely different.
In terms of the history of the Warhammer 40,000 universe, the Mark-3 Maximus armor was designed and manufactured in the last days of the Great Crusade, at a time in which the Adeptus Astartes warriors were becoming more of a garrison-force instead of an expeditionary force. By this time, most of the worlds of the Imperium had been re-conquered by Terra and the Emperor, and the Marines found themselves increasingly being deployed on worlds already under imperial control.
The armor itself employed many new technological advances, yet was slightly less mobile than the earlier Mark-II and Mark-III versions. This is perhaps due to the fact that the Marines were, in essence, less mobile themselves, more likely to be standing guard than assaulting an enemy military force.
The image shown here depicts a pre-heresy Tactical Marine of the Space Wolves, as indicated by the plain gray metal instead of the post-heresy ice-blue colour. Note the pre-heresy bolt-gun as well.
