TIM'S CYLON CENTURION COSTUMEBeing in the 501st Legion has MANY benefits - meeting great people, helping our communities with volunteer and charity work, and (of course) great costumes. Being fans of science-fiction as we are, sometimes we like to take our passion for sci-fi costumes into other areas, such as other science fiction movies, television shows, and games. It's not uncommon for 501st Legion members to also have costumes from Halo, Warhammer 40,000 (Warhammer 40K), Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter, Star Trek, etc. My own other area of costuming interest is in one of my favorite TV shows, being a child of the 70's/80's - Battlestar Galactica. I recently purchased a Cylon Centurion costume from a fellow member of the 501st, which was almost completely done. Several things need to be done before I can wear it, however, and this page will document my progress toward finishing it, as well as photos of the costume at various events once I'm finished with it. This page will be routinely updated during 2011-2012 as I finish it, so that I can share with you what I've learned in the process: how to build various pieces, where to buy certain parts, and what you can expect to pay. I'll end for now in saying that I have absolutely no idea (seriously) where the armor itself and the red eye-scanner come from - the costume has changed hands multiple times over the years, so the original source and the original owner are unknown. (I've tried.) My costume will not be a 100% accurate recreation of the original Universal Studios Cylon Centurion. Instead, it will be SLIGHTLY updated for "in-person" viewing as opposed to what was seen on TV sets in 1979. I'll be using an all-black bodysuit as the main difference, but a few other departures from "screen accurate" will be inevitable as well. Below is a photo of the costume in its current condition - July 2011
