TIM'S MASTER REPLICAS "CE"
STORMTROOPER HELMET
By far the most common "bucket" for 501st Stormtroopers is
the ubiquitous "FX" helmet that comes with the FX Armor. It's
a fine bucket, very symmetrical, with clean lines and trimming, glossy
finish, and plenty of room for fans, voice-amps, etc. That plethora of
room, however, is also the helmet's downfall for anybody that is under
5'11" tall.
If you're under five-foot-eleven, then there's a good chance that the
FX helmet is going to be so big on you that you will have trouble turning
your head from side to side, since it will actually rest down against
the top of your shoulders as mine does. Whenever I try to turn my head,
the bottom of my helmet hits the top of my shoulders, which get in the
way of the helmet turning more than an inch to either side. In short,
it feels like a diving helmet on me.
But there is a solution! The beautiful, screen-accurate, high-quality
and affordable Master Replicas "CE" helmet! It's about 25% SMALLER
than the FX bucket, and looks absolutely breath-taking. It was digitally
scanned from an actual screen-used original helmet from 1977, then made
symmetrical via computer processing, and then created via rapid-prototyping
CAD. This, in essence, means that the MR CE helmet is what Andrew Ainsworth
and SDS had WANTED to make back in 1976/1977 for the stormtroopers.
There are a few, very few, MINOR flaws in the MR CE helmet. The most
obvious are the seams in the front of the helmet, which are easily fixed
with some carefully-applied white caulking. The next is the lenses, which
are too transparent and must be replaced by new green lenses that are
thicker/darker. Lastly, the "tube stripes" on the sides must
be replaced by affordable after-market decals, blue instead of black,
and of the proper size and placement. All told, these extremely easy modifications
shouldn't cost you more than $25 (US).
