TK-4267's THE OLD REPUBLIC BLOG

MERRY #@*& CHRISTMAS!

2011 - DECEMBER 25:
So I log in to TOR this morning, finally having a bit more time to TRY to play. I got into the Republic starting area, and my computer crashed - again. Clearly, in order to play TOR, I will need a PC with 8GB of RAM, 3GB of video RAM, and a EIGHT-core processor that is no slower than 3.5GHz. But I don't have $2,639 to spend on such a PC...

I'M IN THE GAME (AND F.P.S. WOES...)

2011 - DECEMBER 22:
Here's me, as an Imperial Agent! I had some fun trying to recreate myself as a Star Wars: The Old Republic character. Oddly enough, it turned out pretty well. Sadly enough, however, I'm not going to keep him. Even sadder, however, is that the game's FPS is so low despite me having twice the recommended system specs, that I'm not sure if I'm even going to play TOR at all until the FPS improves - a lot.

THE HARDEST PART

SPACESHIP-INFLUENCED
CHARACTER CHOICES?

2011 - DECEMBER 11:
I know that I said how great it is for SWTOR to be so character driven, but I have to confess now that I love the spaceships that characters get in the game as well. So much so, in fact, that some of my character class choices were partly based on what ships they get. Being an avid fan of the Empire in any Star Wars setting, my favorite ship in this game is without a doubt the Fury - a great big TIE-Fighter, with hyperdrive and shields. (Finally!) My second favorite is the Corellian freighter that smugglers get, so that means I'll be playing on the Republic side too. Then again, my "main" character is a trooper (Hondo) so I'll be playing Republic anyway. (I chose a Trooper as my first choice since it's the closest in the game to playing a 501st Legion trooper.) Sadly, my least favorite ship in the game is the ship that troopers get, which is what got me to consider other classes. The bigger problem is that I want a Corellian Defender-class light corvette too, but Idon't really want to play a Jedi. Decisions, decisions...

WHY TOR IS THE MMORPG FOR
CASUAL AND ROLE PLAYERS

2011 - DECEMBER 09:
Do you play online games to relax? Do you enjoy more than anything else the satisfaction of creating a complex, believable, and compelling online persona? Do you enjoy the thrill of exploring new places, and the intricacies of crafting equipment for yourself and for others? Congratulations then - you are the ideal type of MMORPG player for Star Wars: The Old Republic. Character development in TOR is more than just face-hair-skin-color choices. In fact, the vast majority of your character's individuality starts after you create your character! Moral choices, behavior toward non-player-characters, and your own personality will affect your character's fate throughout her or his adventures. Also, those non-player-characters are brilliantly brought to life in the game, with excellent voice-acting and equally great facial expressions and body language. If you're a role-playing player, then you can't help but become emotionally-involved in the stories of the other characters around you, as they fight for what they believe in. And that, in my opinion, is what has made the Star Wars franchise so successful, even more than the special effects and the action scenes - the memorable characters. And in Star Wars: The Old Republic, now YOU can be one of those memorable characters!
